LEGION BASEBALL: Garvin, Marshall lead Lakers to split with Lakeside
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 year, 2 months AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | June 20, 2025 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Karsen Garvin's bat came alive Wednesday night.
The Priest River High rising sophomore went 2-for-3 with a bases-clearing triple and five RBI as the Lakers defeated the Eagles in the opener of Spokane American Legion "A" doubleheader held at War Memorial Field. Garvin recorded a two-run double during a three-run first frame and a three-run triple during a nine-run fourth frame to help lift North Idaho to the run-rule victory.
"It was a great win; we need to collect as many league wins as we can going into districts," head coach Travis Tyler said. "The boys came out swinging the bats, laying bunts down, and played solid small ball. Asher Cramer had an amazing diving catch and Arrow Cramer got scrappy with a line drive at shortstop and made a double play out of it. We really backed up our pitcher tonight, and that's what I keep preaching to them. We were sold all-around in Game 1."
It wasn't just Garvin's bat that came alive in the 10-run win. The Lakers rallied for 13 hits in total, with multi-hit efforts coming from Arrow Cramer, Erik Hansen, Cody Gutierrez, and Cy Marshall. Marshall, who had two RBI singles, also happened to have pitched a tremendous game on the mound, allowing just one earned run over four solid innings. He now holds a 3.71 ERA on the season across 11.1 innings.
"We are getting better every week, and as a coach, that's all we can ask for," assistant coach Eric Burk said. " Cy had a great day at the plate and on the mound and is becoming one of our leaders, Karsen's bat has been reliable for us, and our defense is coming together as we start learning each players' strengths. We believe this team can accomplish anything."
