LEGION BASEBALL: Prairie wins, ties on first day at Omaha tourney

OMAHA, Neb. — A two-run single by Mason Perkins capped a five-run sixth inning that lifted the Prairie Cardinals 17U team past the Natural Baseball Colorado 18U team 5-1 as the Cardinals finished with a win and a tie on Thursday at Westgate Ball Park on the first day of the Pathway Omaha tournament. 

Earlier Thursday, Prairie and the Rawlings Tigers Quatro SC played to a 3-3 tie. 

Gavin Wienker also had an RBI single in the sixth inning of the second game for Prairie (9-5-1), part of a two-hit game. Wienker and Logenn Storr combined to allow just three hits. 

Noah Corkery struck out 10 in 5.1 innings for Natural Baseball Colorado. 

Earlier, Perkins went 3 for 3 for Prairie against the Rawlings Tigers.  

With the Cardinals trailing 3-1, Grady Stinton singled in a run in the sixth, then scored on an Alec Finn single to tie the game.  

Prairie continues play today in the 20-team UpperClass division, facing the Flames Baseball Club to conclude Pool B play.

LEWISTON — Kyle Johnson pitched a three-hit shutout as the Lumbermen “AA” team beat the Twins, their Area A rival, at Harris Field in the Lums’ opener at the Palouse Summer Series. 

Johnson, a lefthander who recently signed a letter of intent with Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Wash., struck out four and walked one for Coeur d’Alene (9-10). 

Aven Adams delivered a sacrifice fly in the second inning for the Lums, and Vinny Lapresta added an RBI single in the sixth. 

Andy Everson had two of Coeur d’Alene’s three hits. 

Coeur d’Alene is scheduled to play Elevate Northwest today at 10 a.m. at McDonald Park in Colfax.
