SANDPOINT — An Oklahoma man has plead guilty to a charge that stems from an alleged rape incident.
Joshua Charles Snyder, 32, pled guilty to one count of felony attempted strangulation. As part of the agreement, the original rape charge against him will be dropped during his sentencing hearing Aug. 18.
Snyder faces up to 15 years in jail and/or up to a $50,000 fine.
Bonner County deputies became aware of the incident involving Snyder after the victim’s mother called 911, alleging that Snyder had sexually assaulted her daughter.
Most of the details in the case are redacted due to the sensitivity and severity of the case. However, court documents indicate that Snyder held down the girl involved in the case, while ignoring her requests for Snyder to stop.
A probable cause affidavit shows a text thread between Snyder and the victim that occurred after the abuse, to which Snyder wrote the victim “I’m sorry if I did anything to hurt you I don’t remember much,” and “I'm so sorry.”
A Bonner County arrest warrant was issued April 25 in the amount of $250,000. Three days later, Bonner County Sheriff’s Office published a press release via social media which asked for the community’s assistance in locating Snyder. The press release indicated that Snyder was originally from Oklahoma but had been in town for a construction/renovation job.
Snyder was then arrested May 14.
