Vandal women's basketball player Passos called up to Brazilian National Team for World University Games
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil — Ana Beatriz Passos of the University of Idaho women’s basketball team has been selected for the Brazilian national team for this summer’s World University Games in Germany.
The World University Summer Games are a biennial event hosted by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), and they are formatted similarly to the Olympic Games in that national teams compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals with the top three teams winning these awards. Teams are solely comprised of student-athletes.
Passos, a wing player, wrapped up her freshman season in which she played in all 30 games for the Vandals. A 5’11” native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Passos became an important piece in the Vandals’ rotation throughout the season. She logged career highs of 11 points against Walla Walla, six rebounds against Idaho State, three steals at Northern Arizona, and two assists on four separate occasions.
“It is a great honor to represent your country and I’m glad Ana Bia gets to do that again,” Idaho head coach, Arthur Moreira said. “It will be a great experience for her to compete in the World University Games against some of the world’s best players."
Passos said: “I am very happy to be representing the Brazilian national team again. The feeling of wearing this jersey is always unique and comes with a lot of honor. I will always give my best and represent my country in the best way.”
The 2025 World University Games will be held in the Rhine-Ruhr region of Germany. Brazil will be playing its games in the cities of Essen, Duisburg, and Hagen. In group play, Passos and Brazil will be facing off against Hungary, Japan, and Lithuania.
