Casserilla homers twice in Range Riders win

Xavier Casserilla hit two solo home runs, Logan Beard had a big two-run double and the Glacier Range Riders snapped a four-game losing skid with an 8-5 win over the Great Falls Voyagers Wednesday.
Kyle Ashwork had two hits and three runs batted in as the Range Riders (12-20) built a 7-1 lead and held on at Glacier Bank Park. Casserilla’s first homer sparked a four-run second inning for the Range Riders. Ashworth added a two-run single in the frame, and Gabe Howell drove in the fourth run with a groundout.
Ashworth hit an RBI single ahead of Beard’s two-run double in the sixth — both hits came with two out — to boost the Range Riders’ lead to 7-1. Casserilla then hit his second home run, and fifth of the season, leading off the seventh.
This offset a two-run double by Great Falls’ Roman Kuntz in the seventh inning and a two-run home run by Kyle Putnam in the eighth. The Voyagers fell to 4-28.
Luke Schafer (3-1) was sharp on the mound for Glacier, going six innings with six hits, three walks and one unearned run allowed. He struck out six. Schafer now has 42 strikeouts, two behind teammate and league leader Ty Bothwell.
Nick Zegna, the Range Riders’ fifth pitcher, worked around a walk and a single in the ninth for his third save.
The teams continue their six-game series Thursday. Final game is a Sunday matinee at 1:05 p.m.
