HYRUM, Utah — It was some 110 miles south and 11 months later, but the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen “AA” team earned a measure of revenge over the Pocatello Runnin’ Rebels on Thursday.

The Lums knocked off the two-time Idaho state Legion champions 6-5 in the first round of the Western Invitational.

Mark Holecek went 3 for 5 with two doubles and two runs scored for Coeur d’Alene (14-12), which led 6-2 after the top of the sixth inning, then held off Pocatello, which scored once in the bottom of the sixth and twice in the seventh. The Runnin’ Rebels (10-7) had runners at second and third with two out before Lums reliever Andy Everson retired the next batter.

Kyle Johnson singled in a run in the first inning for Coeur d’Alene. Holecek hit a two-run double in the fourth, then scored on Aven Adams’ single for a 4-1 Lums lead.

Tanner Franklin’s RBI single in the sixth made it 6-2 Lums.

Coeur d’Alene plays the BR Blue Bears AA 17U today at 9:30 a.m. PDT, then faces Silverado at 2:30 p.m. as play in the eight-team tournament continues.
