LEGION BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Lakers grab win over 49ers, fall to Mountaineers
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 9 months, 1 week AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | June 29, 2025 12:30 PM

SANDPOINT — Cy Marshall produced a perfect 4-for-4 effort, which included two doubles, three runs scored and a team-high five RBI as the Lakers scored in every inning against the 49ers of Chewelah to capture the opener of a Spokane American Legion "A" doubleheader Friday at War Memorial Field.
Trailing 7-2 heading into the bottom of the second inning, North Idaho tallied 16 of next 17 runs in the contest. Cody Gutierrez's RBI single in first frame started off the night's scoring, but it was the third where the Lakers really took control of the momentum.
Building off a two-run Erik Hansen triple to deep left field in the second, Mason Balch registered a single and Marshall mashed a two-run double to lift North Idaho to an 8-7 advantage in the third.
Marshall added a two-run single during a six-run fourth frame and another RBI single in the sixth to give the Lakers some more insurance.
On the rubber, Hansen, who also tallied a multi-hit effort for North Idaho, struck out nine batters over 5.2 quality frames to secure the win.
