Man found dead on Canfield Mountain after shooting

COEUR d’ALENE — Hours after two firefighters were killed when they were ambushed while responding to a blaze on Canfield Mountain, SWAT team members found “a deceased male” on the mountain with a firearm nearby, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.
Police exchanged gunfire with the individual, authorities confirmed, but his cause of death is not yet known.
The shelter in place order has been lifted, but a wildfire continues to burn.
