Silverwood's Tremors coaster to receive 'seismic upgrade'

For a time.
Silverwood Theme Park announced Thursday its Tremors roller coaster will be receiving a "seismic upgrade" as its traditional wooden track is replaced.
Since Tremors opened in 1999, it has been one of the top-rated wooden coasters in the country, Silverwood said in the announcement. This season, Tremors will undergo work that will introduce Millennium Flyer trains and a new, cutting-edge track system developed by a Hayden-based company.
"It's going to be using 208 ReTrak from Rocky Mountain Construction for the track system, which is a full metal track to smooth out the ride," Silverwood’s Director of Marketing and Entertainment Jordan Carter said Friday.
Silverwood has also added a second train to Tremors to boost throughput.
Tremors has been known to shake riders to their cores. After leaving the loading station and climbing the first hill, they find themselves 100 feet in the air, making the first drop of 103 feet into the first of four underground tunnels, reaching a top speed of 63 MPH.
After the upgrade, the coaster will have a different wheel setup, different trains and different brakes.
“Silverwood is committed to enhancing the guest experience," Carter said in the news release. "We are thrilled to announce that this seismic upgrade on Tremors will give our guests more opportunities to enjoy an increased throughput and smoother ride for years to come.”
The beast will be reawakened this summer when Silverwood opens for the season May 3.
For over 30 years, Silverwood has been a destination for families seeking theme park experiences in North Idaho. What started as a single train ride has expanded to feature over 70 rides, slides, shows and attractions.

Mike Baker installed his exhibit at the Art Spirit Gallery hoping it would generate conversations in the community. And wow, did it ever. "No Permission Needed," featuring pieces created using artificial intelligence, debuted Nov. 14 at the downtown gallery. It quickly became a subject of social media discussion and scrutiny in the arts community and the community at large for the use of AI and female experiences being brought into focus by a male, with some accusing Baker of misogyny, art theft or posing as an artist while others defended the intention behind the project and the exploration of a new technology-based medium. "At the end of the day it’s focused on women’s health, all rooted in the work we’ve done around endometriosis and tied to the experiences people have shared with me and that I’ve seen walking through the health care system,” Baker said Thursday. “I was just trying to capture all of that within it."
