Let the shenanigans begin: Ronan celebrates St. Patrick's Day

Everyone will be looking for a pot of gold at the 36th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, 5:30 p.m. March 17 in Ronan.
Under the theme of “Let the Shenanigans Begin,” this year’s celebration will be filled with family fun and festivities.
“We are so excited,” said committee chair Christy Bockman. “It’s nice to have a tradition that connects the community.”
Hosted by a group of volunteers and local businesses, the parade is famous for a variety of colorful, entertaining (and often very green) floats and entries.
“Over the years, we’ve had leprechauns, giant shamrocks, and some amazing floats from the community,” Bockman said. “Anyone can enter the parade and there is no cost.”
Community groups, businesses, non-profits, and families are invited to join the fun, whether with a float, a vehicle, pets, or by simply putting on a costume and walking the route. The event is a great time to embrace spring’s arrival, as winter is put to rest.
“There will be lots of storytelling, corned beef, and green beverages,” Bockman said. “It’s a time for laughter and a dose of silliness to shake of the seasonal blues.”
Entries line up at 5:15 behind St. Luke Hospital. Prizes will be given after the parade at the Official Irish Headquarters, the Pheasant Lounge. Prize categories include Most Irish, Best Irish Animal, Greenest Sports Team, Best Kids Float, Pub Wars, Biggest Shamrock, Greenest Float, and Best Overall.
“Of course, we have a distinguished panel of experts assembled to judge these prestigious awards,” Bockman added. “They bring years of experience and a deep knowledge of Irish lore and other blarney.”
No float registration is required. The organizing committee will be monitoring entries for profanity, racism or other inappropriate messaging, and entries with offensive images, graphics or signage will not be allowed in the parade.
“Everyone is invited to join the parade,” Bockman said. “Get creative and come join the fun.”
