NJCAA WRESTLING TOURNAMENT: Cardinals, with two semifinalists, sit seventh after first day

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – North Idaho College, with two semifinalists and three total All-Americans, is tied for seventh after Friday’s first day of the NJCAA Tournament at the Mid-American Center.
Sophomore Elijah Cater, who was sixth at 125 pounds last year, advanced to the semifinals to face Sefton Douglas of Western Wyoming today.
Freshman Ray Griffin also advanced to the semifinals at 285 for NIC, and will face Dmarian Lopez of Western Wyoming for a bid in the national title match.
Sophomore Sal Silveria won his consolation quarterfinal match to advance to Saturday.
All competitors that reach Saturday are considered All-Americans for finishing in the top eight at nationals.
Indian Hill of Ottumwa, Iowa, leads the team race with 113 points, followed by Region 18 champion Clackamas of Oregon City, Ore., with 99 points and two-time defending champion Western Wyoming of Rock Springs, Wyo., in third with 98.5 points.
Championship finals are today at 4 p.m. PST.
