Marie Leona Hawkins, 87

Marie Leona Hawkins passed away March 3, 2025, at the age of 87. She was a giving, caring, wife, mother and grandmother.

She was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Sept. 1, 1937, to Ross and Leona Converse. She attended school in Sagle and Sandpoint, graduating salutatorian from Sandpoint High School in 1955. She played the accordion in her family band and performed at the Farmer Gray Variety Show at the Panida Theater.  

She married Ralph Hawkins in 1957 and lived in Sagle where they raised their three children, Polly, Penny and Jim.

She enjoyed baking, bowling, her vegetable and flower gardens, playing cards with extended family and crocheting with her friends. She always had coffee on for family and friends Saturday morning. She, Ralph and their family and friends traveled to Alaska and Yellowstone as well as numerous camping, fishing and horseback riding adventures throughout the years. She was always up for an adventure.

Marie worked for Bonner County School District as a secretary for the Sandpoint Middle School until retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harve Converse, husband Ralph, son Jim Hawkins, grandson Brian Pratt, and two great-granddaughters Madison Wyman and Maren Sleep. She leaves behind daughters Polly (Jack) Pratt and Penny (Tim) Farmin, both of Sagle; numerous grand and great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.

There will be a private family service held. 

Donations can be made in Marie’s name to Special Olympics or Farmin Stidwell Resource Closet.
