POST FALLS — City Councilor Randy Westlund has officially announced his candidacy for mayor of Post Falls.
Westlund stated in a press release that the campaign will be a way for him to advocate for responsible growth and to "protect our local economy from the pressures of reckless overdevelopment.”
Westlund’s campaign is centered around growth management and pausing rapid high-density development, focusing instead on "family-friendly homeownership," strengthening law enforcement and investing in public safety resources, the press release said.
Westlund said he also hopes to cut red tape, encourage local entrepreneurship and ensure Post Falls remains a hub for local business success, while preserving the small-town identity of the city.
“I am running for mayor because I want my children and grandchildren to grow up here and enjoy the same quality of life we do today,” said Westlund. “That requires prudent stewardship and a positive vision for what our city should look like in 20 or 50 years."
Westlund has background as a business owner and engineer, having worked with organizations ranging from NASA to local startups.
“Our city is at a crossroads,” Westlund stated. “We can either allow unchecked growth to shape Post Falls into just another suburb, or we can take a stand and ensure that our city remains a place where families can afford to buy homes, where small businesses flourish and where our community values remain strong. I believe in President Trump’s vision for America’s Golden Age and I will fight to bring that energy to Post Falls.”
