Frances Shirley Olsen passed away on March 5, 2025, at the age of 93.
Shirley was born in Suisun, California, on Aug. 13, 1931, to Frank and Lucille Todd, and was raised on a large family farm in Stanford, Montana. She worked alongside her family during some of the hardest time in our history.
In 1952, while working at JC Penney's in Lewistown, Montana; she met and married the love of her life, Robert H. Olsen. In 1957, they settled in Libby where they raised their eight children. Besides raising a large family, Shirley was very involved with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, as most of the children were involved in them.
Around 1965, Shirley was among the very first women hired by the then St. Regis Paper Co., where she worked in the plywood plant until Robert retired. Shirley loved little kids and was a grandmother to all, related or not.
Shirley was preceded in passing by her husband Robert, daughter Vikkie, parents Frank and Lucille Todd; brother Don Todd; and sister Velda Duty; and granddaughter Jennifer Short.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Jayne) of Shelton, Washington, Doritta (Dave) Stenson, of Dillon, Montana, David (Kim) Olsen, Allen Olsen, Gary Olsen, all from Libby, Mark (Missy) OIsen of Columbia Falls, Montana and Brian Olsen of Kalispell, MT; sisters Charlotte Rector, Myrna Stone, and brother Gene Todd, all from Montana; and 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
At Shirley’s request there will be no public service. She will be laid next to her husband Robert.
