ROYAL CITY — Junior Sharon Arroyo was named as one of two wrestlers of the year, and girls coach Jesus Carlos Villa named coach of the year on the South Central Athletic Conference all league team. The Knights also received the sportsmanship award.  

Royal girls 

First team: Sharon Arroyo, junior, 100 pounds; Heaven Parker, sophomore, 120 pounds; Evelyn Acencio, junior, 130 pounds; Lauren Jenks, senior, 135 pounds; Hali Christensen, freshman, 140 pounds; Madisen Christensen, senior, 170 pounds. 

Second team: Sophia Villafana, freshman, 100 pounds; Isabelle Barajas, sophomore, 110 pounds; Vanessa Flores, freshman, 155 pounds.  

The honorable mention list was not available. 

Royal boys 

First team: Cael Orth, sophomore, 157 pounds. 

Second team: Dennis Hernandez, junior, 120 pounds. 

Wahluke was one of two recipients of the sportsmanship award.

Road projects continue as September approaches

QUINCY — The dirt is flying on A Street Northeast in Quincy. Construction crews were moving excavated soil and compacting the roadbed Thursday morning. A Street Northeast is being completely rebuilt from the intersection with Third Avenue Northeast to Sixth Avenue Northeast. The section of Sixth Avenue to the intersection to B Street Northeast is part of the project also.

Roundabout, sidewalks, road rebuilds part of Othello six-year street plan

OTHELLO — A roundabout at the intersection of SR 26 and South 14th Avenue is the top priority for Othello city officials, with the goal of construction in 2029. The project is part of the city’s annual six-year street plan approved by the Othello City Council Monday. Othello Public Works Director Robin Adolphsen said the plan can be amended as needed.

OTHELLO — There’s at least one more test, but when it’s completed, the city of Othello should be ready to build the first phase of a facility that will treat water from irrigation canals to municipal use standards.
