A homeschooled 10th grader and newly self-published author in Kootenai County released her debut novel Monday and will hold her first book signing at 1 p.m. March 22 at EntertainMart, 185 E. Appleway Ave., Coeur d'Alene.

Kanine Parker has turned what started out as a dream into a suspense-filled story of mystery, loyalty and the relentless pursuit of truth in a world built on deception.

The 200-page fiction novel, "The Helmcott Chronicles: Shadow’s Edge," dives into the life of teenage daredevil Annika, a top agent for the Secret Intelligence Agency. To the outside world she seems unstoppable, but underneath her tough exterior a dark shadow haunts her: Her mother’s death in an accident four years earlier. While on a high-risk mission, Annika uncovers more than she bargained for. Her refusal to hand over the intel leads to her kidnapping by the very organization for which she works, thrusting her into a dangerous game of manipulation and distrust. As she struggles to make sense of the SIA’s true motives, Annika and friends begin to piece together the truth that her mother’s death may not have been an accident after all. With the SIA closing in, Annika must confront the lies, betrayal and corruption that threaten everything she holds dear.

Kanine’s lifelong goal is to write stories that will take the world by storm.

"Shadow's Edge" is ideal for readers 10 and older. It can be found locally at N8’s Tech Services, 4025 N. Government Way, Coeur d'Alene, and online at kanineparker.com, barnesandnoble.com and amazon.com.
