SANDPOINT — Bonner County commissioners are expected to make a decision on 20 action items during their March 18 business meeting.  

Bonner County Justice Services will request the acceptance of several streams of unanticipated revenue. The first unanticipated amount stems from contracts with Boundary County, Lincoln County, Kootenai Tribe of Idaho and the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections. These contracts allow for juveniles to be housed in the Bonner County Juvenile Detention Center. The need for adjustment includes an extra $30,686 in funds. 

The second source of unanticipated revenue comes from a lottery tax in the amount of $9,781.33. Justice Services also received unanticipated funds from adults on probation that are required to pay for drug testing supplies. The unanticipated amount equals $10,224.07.   

Bonner County Road and Bridge will request approval to seek a magnesium chloride supplier for approximately 400 miles of gravel roadway. MgCl₂ is used to stabilize gravel roads and reduce dust. It is only laid on road sections with over 100 cars traveling on them per day. The MgCl₂ procurement is estimated to cost $700,000 according to the Road and Bridge budget.  

Road and Bridge will also be seeking approval to enter into a contract agreement with Wood’s Crushing and Hauling Inc. for a 2025 rock crushing project. The department will be requesting the approval of Wood’s Crushing and Hauling Inc.’s bid for all three Bonner County districts. Road and Bridge is estimated to pay $295,840 for District 1, $486,990 for District 2 and $256,307.50 for District 3.  

Road and Bridge is also requesting the approval of the State and Local Agreement for Project Key. The agreement would allow up to 80 intersections to be updated with LED stop signs and flashing lights connected to radar control. Ideally, the stop signs will flash when a vehicle approaches, flashing faster if a vehicle does not slow down. The county would be required to pay $57,413 in match funds if the project was approved.  

After making a decision on 20 agenda items, each commissioner is slated to provide a detailed report of their current ongoing tasks.
