KOOTENAI — A Kootenai man is facing two domestic violence charges related to an alleged mid-March incident.

Steven Geronimo Brown, 42, was arrested March 12 in Kootenai on charges of attempted strangulation and domestic violence with infliction of traumatic injury. Brown is currently in custody at Bonner County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

According to court documents, emergency services were called after the victim allegedly ran from Brown to a neighboring house. When Ponderay Police arrived at the scene, Brown was allegedly seen pacing on the neighbor’s porch.

A probable cause affidavit indicates that Brown and the victim had allegedly gotten into a verbal altercation related to information that was on Brown’s phone. The argument escalated when Brown allegedly pinned the victim down on the couch and held her by her neck and wrists. According to court documents, Brown has allegedly tried to strangle the victim during previous disagreements.

In a preliminary hearing, the state must present enough evidence to determine if there is enough probable cause to charge the defendant with a felony.

Brown is scheduled to appear in court March 27 for a preliminary hearing. It is unknown what penalties Brown may face if convicted.
