OTHELLO — Two people were transported for examination as a precautionary measure after one driver allegedly ran a stop sign and hit the other car near Othello Sunday night.

The collision occurred about one mile south of Othello at the intersection of State Route 24 and Hampton Road, according to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol. James Bennett, 54, Pasco, was driving west on Hampton Road, failed to stop at the stop sign, and hit a car driven by Samuel Scroggins, 28, Othello, who was traveling west on SR 24.

Bennet hit Scroggins’ car on the passenger side. Bennet’s car came to rest in the eastbound lane of SR 24, while Scroggins’ car ended up in the westbound ditch on its top, the memo said.

Bennett and Oscar Lopez Sierra, 32, a passenger in Scroggins’ car, were transported as a precaution, the memo said.
