Rockhounds gather for show March 22-23

Two Flathead Valley rock clubs have joined efforts to put on a combined Gold, Gem and Mineral Show on March 22-23.
The 18th annual show, presented by the Northwest Montana Rock Chucks Rock Club and the Northwest Montana Gold Prospectors Club, takes place at the Expo Building at the Flathead County Fairgrounds. The show is open March 22 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and March 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be a special federation displays from the Butte Rock club featuring rare crystals, mining information and Montana gems. The Northwest Montana Gold Prospectors Club will share information on club owned gold claims near Libby.
Presentations from Pete Knudsen, professor emeritus of mining engineering at School of Mines in Butte, will give three talks at the show about “Minerals from Butte area,” “Quartz from MT” and “the Crazy Sphinx Mine.” Talks take place on March 22 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and on March 23 at 1 p.m.
Other items of interest include fluorescent minerals display and personal collection of members mineral specimens, fossils, arrowhead, and lapidary items. There will be activities for children.
More than 26 vendors will be selling mineral specimens from around the world, fossils, jewelry, beads, lapidary rough, and prospecting equipment
Admission is free for children through eighth grade, $5 for adults. Admission is good for both days of the show.
