We’re all Irish

RONAN – Even the weather cooperated with Monday evening's parade in Ronan and the turnout was fantastic – considering that Monday is not always the day for fun and games!

As always, it was tough to judge the entries, but here are the picks:

• Best kids – Lakes' Farm mini horses, first; Ronan Middle School, second.

• Best Irishman – John Sullivan, first; Carlene Bockman, second.

• Best horse – Patrick Mahoney, first; Dennis Palmer, second.

• Most original float – Dick's Pheasant Lounge, first; Stageline Pizza, second.

• Most humorous – Me Pot O' Gold (Clinton Morgan), first; Jim Morgan, second.

• Best of Parade – Pioneer Days Company, first; Dick's Pheasant Lounge, second.

Once again thanks to all who participated in the parade.

Special thanks go to all who contributed trailers, pickups, band instruments and equipment and those who took the time and energy to participate.

Protest planned today at tribal complex

PABLO – A "silent gathering" for tribal government reform will be held today (Thursday) at the tribal complex here.

The event will run from 8 a.m.-noon, with a break for an Indian taco lunch, then resume from 1-4:30 p.m. Coffee will also be provided.

Participants can bring posters or banners with their own personal concerns – but be respectful, organizers ask – or use one provided by the group.

Keep politics out

Editor:

Because of my experiences and relationships with two of our county's elected officials, and in light of recent criticism directed at them, I am compelled to respond.

I have known County Attorney Kim Christopher and her family for three decades; have followed Kim through public school, college, law school and her professional career. During this time and in every situation, I have observed, she has been honest, well-intentioned and dedicated to doing what is right; functioning within the parameters of the law.

Likewise, I have had a positive personal and professional relationship with Sheriff Joe Geldrich throughout his career in law enforcement in Lake County. I have observed him in his office, the courtroom and in the field, and have utmost respect for his efforts. He has exhibited poise and good judgment during very stressful situations.

I have gained an admiration for his work ethic, integrity and his persistence in trying to make our communities secure and safe.

I believe it is essential that we support those elected to serve us. If we have questions regarding a decision, I suggest we direct those questions or concerns directly to the person responsible and not editorialize broadly in the media.

It is my hope that in the future none of us would be politically motivated to judge those who serve us with valid intentions.
