Two of Libby’s own, Reed Scott and Colter Anderson, made waves at the U.S. Junior Nationals in Soldier Hollow, Utah, a venue with a rich Olympic history as the site of both the 2002 and upcoming 2034 Winter Games.

The event gathered the nation’s top 450 cross-country skiers, all of whom had earned their spot by qualifying through their respective divisions.

Scott and Anderson proved they belonged among the country’s best, delivering standout performances throughout the competition. Scott raced to an impressive sixth-place finish in the individual classic event, while Anderson battled his way to 11th in the fiercely contested skate sprint. These results are a testament to their of training with Libby’s Kootenai Nordic Club.

Ben Scott explained the significance of the competition.

"Junior Nationals is as high as they can compete domestically," Scott said. "They can compete at Junior Worlds but the trials for that is earlier in the season. Their results at Junior Nationals opens doors to national training camps as well. College programs will also look at these results as a measure for giving scholarships."

The journey isn’t over for Scott and Anderson. They will be joined by fellow competitor Ledger Fortner as they set their sights on the U.S. Biathlon Nationals next week in Bozeman.

The trio shifts their focus from purely cross-country skiing to the demanding combination of skiing and marksmanship that defines biathlon.

The Kootenai Nordic Club extends its gratitude to the many businesses and individuals who have provided sponsorships, financial support and countless volunteer hours to ensure these young athletes have the resources they need to compete on the national stage.

"We really appreciate Carsen Campbell, Leroy Thom of Montana Machine, Rich Hutter of Napa Auto, Jeff Robertson and Joe Taylor for their unwavering support," coach Ben Scott said. "Their contributions have played a crucial role in the development of local talent and the continued success of Nordic skiing in the region."

For those who wish to support Kootenai Nordic Club and the next generation of skiers, opportunities to contribute—whether through sponsorship, volunteering, joining the club or cheering from the sidelines—call coach Scott at 406-291-8091.
