Michelle Lippert of Post Falls has announced her candidacy for the Community Library Network board of trustees in the May 20 election.

Lippert aims to bring fresh ideas and experienced leadership to the board, according to a press release, and offers "a strong commitment to expanding library services and ensuring equitable access to resources."

“As a lifelong supporter of public libraries, I understand their vital role in providing education, resources and a sense of community,” Lippert in the release. “I am committed to restoring library hours and services, advocating for intellectual freedom and ensuring that our libraries remain welcoming spaces for everyone.”

Lippert served 24 years as a trustee on the Post Falls School Board "where she gained extensive experience in public finance, governance, policy development and open meeting laws," the release said.

In 2023, she was named Board Chair of the Year by the Idaho School Board Association.

Lippert spent 26 years as a philosophy professor at North Idaho College.

In recognition of her contributions to education, she was honored as a Woman of Distinction by the Soroptimists of CDA in 2021.

"Her years in the classroom provided her with a deep understanding of the community's diverse needs and the importance of libraries in fostering discovery and learning," the release said.

If elected, Lippert said, she plans to focus on key initiatives such as restoring parental rights in library decisions; expanding library hours and services; advocating for intellectual freedom and diverse resources; and strengthening community partnerships to enhance outreach.

Lippert encourages community members to get involved and share their vision for the future of local libraries, the release said.

“Libraries are more than just buildings with books — they are essential hubs for learning, connection and innovation,” she said.
