Some downtown Whitefish merchants were pleased to hear that bumpy Central Avenue, the city's “Main Street,” should be rebuilt this summer. The city's Street and Alley committee agreed unanimously at a meeting to give Central top priority. The full council must agree with the recommendation at its meeting. Jack Sesler, owner of the Ben Franklin store on Central Avenue said the repair of the street would be, “the most important thig you could possibly do.” He said, “Main Street is one way that the impression of a town is made. A number of merchants have been talking about beautifying downtown. The catalyst could be fixing the road.”

A handful of Lupfer Avenue residents were trying to stop the U.S. Postal Service from replacing a home with a parking lot. The Whitefish Post Office was in the process of purchasing 403 Lupfer Avenue in order to build a parking lot on the southeast corner of Lupfer and Fourth Street. The parking area would replace a home and a garage owned by the late Florence Hardwood. Many residents in the neighborhood claim the parking lot would increase traffic, decrease property values and hurt the integrity of the neighborhood.

The Whitefish City Council voted 5 - 1 to create an in-house city attorney office for the city and retain current city attorney John Phelps to head that office. Whitefish superintendent Kate Orozco turned in her resignation after four years leading the school district. Orozco had been seeking other superintendent positions to be closer to family in Idaho. "As I have shared with you in the past weeks, my husband Paul and I have continued to try. And find a way to be present to our youngest children in Idaho while living and working here in Whitefish,” she wrote in a letter to administration. “Unfortunately, we've come to the realization that it's difficult for us to sustain the lifestyle that requires extensive travel back and forth.”
