Maybe 13 will turn out to be a lucky number for Alberton High’s track team.

That’s the number of players listed on a website roster, 11 boys and 2 girls.

But that may indeed be a lucky number given the potential talent involved.

Alberton junior Shea Fredette, who has emerged as the school’s first varsity all-star since their independence move to varsity sports two years ago, could have a big say in how far Panthers sports have come.

Fredette, a multi-sport all-conference player for the Panthers boys’ team, was a top 10 state finisher last year and has emerged as an all-around standout for Alberton’s boys’ teams.

The Panthers top placer in last year’s state Class C track and field meet is Colton Baughman, who emerged last year as a legitimate contender for a State championship in the javelin throw, with a toss that was less than five feet behind the two leaders, both of home were seniors last season, opening the door for Baughman to become an Alberton state champion.

Fredette, the lanky 6-3 junior, placed 19th in the triple jump last year to add to the building excitement in Alberton.

The two girls who are listed on the Alberton roster, Georgia Fredette and Kenzie Johnson, are talented athletes who may also ad a lift to the Alberton sports agenda.

The Panthers open their season this Saturday at the Frenchtown Invitational, which will be attended by several conference schools.
