PREP BASEBALL: Lake City takes two from Lewiston

COEUR d’ALENE — Kyle Johnson drew a bases-loaded walk with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring Jack Pierce with the winning run as the Lake City Timberwolves beat the Lewiston Bengals 3-2 in the first game of an Inland Empire League doubleheader at Lake City High on Thursday.
Johnson scored the tying run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Owen Moore with two outs to tie the game at 2-2.
Maverick Langian pitched three innings of scoreless relief for Lake City in the opener.
In the second game, Nevada signee Owen Mangini scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Timberwolves a 4-3 lead.
Senior Mark Holecek hit a two-run home run to tie the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning for Lake City (3-1, 2-0 IEL), which hosts Moscow in a doubleheader on Thursday.
Lewiston (6-5, 3-3) travels to Post Falls on Saturday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Gavin Helms hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning for the Vikings, who split an Inland Empire League doubleheader with the Bears at Ted Page Field.
Kolbe Coey opened the scoring with an RBI double to score Bam Fenter, then Helms delivered a two-run shot to left field to give Coeur d’Alene a 3-0 lead. Harrison Trunkey-Evans had an RBI single in the sixth to cap the scoring.
Tyler Voorhees struck out five over six innings, then Coey struck out the side in the seventh for the win.
In the nightcap, Tyson Izzo had two hits and three RBIs as the Bears scored four runs in the top of the sixth to rally from a 5-0 deficit for the win.
Coeur d’Alene (4-1, 3-1 IEL) hosts Sandpoint in a doubleheader on Thursday.
Moscow (4-3, 1-1) visits Lake City for a doubleheader on Thursday.

RATHDRUM — Tadgh Ellwood hit a walk-off single with out in the seventh inning to lift the Hawks past the Bulldogs in the first game of an Inland League game at Gorton Field.
Ellwood, Hunter Averitt and Griffin Tamangi had two RBIs each in the opener for Lakeland, which scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game 8-8.
In the nightcap, Jace Taylor had two of the Hawks’ three hits and scored the lone run on a wild pitch in the seventh as the Bulldogs bounced back for the split.
Lakeland (1-7, 1-5 IEL) is scheduled to face Lakeside (Wash.) in a doubleheader on Saturday at Gorton Field in Rathdrum.
Sandpoint (3-5, 2-2) travels to Coeur d’Alene for a doubleheader on Thursday.

SPOKANE — Eric Wylie struck out six on the mound and scored two runs for the Tigers in a nonleague win over the Pirates at Rogers High.
“Eric was really efficient today,” Timberlake coach Bryce Johnson said. “He did a really good job of making them put it in play and mixing up his pitches to keep them off balance.
James Moore singled and scored four runs for Timberlake (3-1), which hosts Medical Lake today in a single game.
“I thought 1 through 9 we did a good job of putting the ball in play,” Johnson said. “We took a step in the right direction today and did a good job of creating chaos on the bases.”
