NIC's Schmidt named SWAC Pitcher of the Week again

North Idaho College sophomore Kristine Schmidt was named Scenic West Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.

Schmidt, from Coeur d'Alene High, pitched 13.1 innings last week, striking out 10 and posting a 1.60 ERA as the Cardinals swept a four-game series with Utah State University-Eastern in Lewiston.

She pitched a complete game in the opener, and came on in relief in two other games for NIC (14-12, 6-6 SWAC), which travels to Salt Lake Community College for doubleheaders Friday and Saturday.


Gonzaga's Ejim a finalist for WBCA Coaches’ All-America Team

The WBCA announced the 50 finalists for this season's 10-member WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America team and it included Gonzaga's Yvonne Ejim. 

She was given honorable mention honors from the WBCA last season as well.

Ejim is currently leading Gonzaga in the WBIT as the team is one of eight teams left in the tournament. Ejim was recently voted the WCC's Player and Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row after leading the West Coast Conference in points (642), points per game (20.7), rebounds (270), rebounds per game (8.7), field goals (244), and double-doubles (11). She was also second in the conference in field goal percentage (.527) and free throws made (143), and eighth in the league in blocks per game (1.0).
