PREP TRACK & FIELD: Bonners Ferry boys win home-opening invitational; Badgers score plenty of top finishes

BONNERS FERRY – The Badgers hosted a 13-time track and field invite on March 22, with the boys emerging victorious and the girls finishing in second, featuring dominant showings from the boys’ sprinters, throwers and jumpers and the girls’ shot put and long jump.
The boys had the top three finishers in the 100m and the top six finishers in the 200m. Sophomore Ben Middleton won both races with times of 12.36 and 24.36 respectively.
The Badger boys also won the 4x100m and 4x200m relays, with Gio Faroni, Middleton, Spiro Petras and Conrad Hiatt making up both groups.
For the Badger boys’ throwers, junior James Morgen took first in discus with a throw of 139 feet 11 inches. Junior Austin McLaughlin finished second. Sophomore Jake Solt won the javelin with a throw of 113 feet 6 inches.
For boys’ jumpers, senior Asher Williams won the high jump with 5 feet 10 inches, junior Logan Archibald won the pole vault with 10 feet 0 inches, and sophomore Riley Beggerly won the long jump with 19 feet 1 inch.
The Badger girls dominated shot put, finishing with the top four throwers. The top three – Hallie Hartman, Helene Rae and Hana Hartman, respectively – all beat the next-best opponent by at least nine feet. Helene Rae also won discus with a throw of 114 feet 11 inches.
All three medalists in the girls' long jump were Badgers. Sophomore Taren Bateman finished in first with 14 feet 11 inches.
