Treasure Valley men's basketball

The Chukars of the Northwest Athletic Conference announced the addition of the guard and former St. Maries High star, who is transferring from NAIA Eastern Oregon University in La Grande.

At St. Maries, Sands was named the 2A Idaho State Player of the Year, a two-time Idaho Central Idaho League first team selection, and a two-time 2A Idaho State first team honoree.

Off the court, Sands was an active member of Business Professionals of America, where he competed on the Project Management Team that finished first in the state. He also qualified for BPA Nationals twice.

"We are excited to bring Greyson in," said Treasure Valley coach Eric Holbrook, who played at Priest River High. "Having a point guard come in that is high IQ, high character, and someone who wants to get better is always a good thing."

Sands said: "I chose TVCC to be a part of a program that values hard work and consistency. Coach Holbrook and the guys are committed to the process and building a winning culture. I can't wait to get to work and start winning."

Sands played in 13 games at Eastern Oregon during his freshman season in 2023-24 and appeared in one game as a sophomore against Warner Pacific on Feb. 15, playing 14 minutes.

Ridge Lovett

Lovett, the former Post Falls High star, earned Male Athlete of the Year after winning the 149-pound national title and helping the Huskers a NCAA runner-up finish this season. Lovett went 25-2 at 149 pounds becoming the first Husker to sweep both the Big Ten and NCAA titles in the same season. At the NCAA Championships, he posted five wins over ranked foes, culminating with a 1-0 decision over top-ranked Caleb Hanson of Virginia Tech in the championship match. Lovett became Nebraska’s first NCAA champion since Jordan Burroughs in 2011. At the Big Ten Championships, he outscored his four opponents by a combined 47-8 with two major decisions and a technical fall. Lovett had 15 bonus-point wins among his 25 victories on the year and went 15-2 against nationally ranked opponents. Lovett, who was NU’s Male Athlete of the Year in 2022, finished his career as a four-time All-American and posted a 102-21 record.
