PREP ROUNDUP: Genesis Prep boys, girls qualify for state in golf

BLANCHARD — Priest River senior Palmer Coleman shot a 2-over par 73 to earn district medalist honors for the second straight year, leading the Spartans to the 3A District 1-2 title at StoneRidge Golf Course on Friday.
Genesis Prep defeated Kellogg on the first hole of a playoff to finish runner-up. Both Genesis Prep and Kellogg advanced to state May 12-13 at River’s Edge Golf Club in Burley after finishing in the top three of the eight-team tournament.
St. Maries senior Addison Crane was girls medalist with a 103.
Lapwai won the girls team title with a 490 and will be joined at state by Genesis Prep and Logos of Moscow.

5A Region 1 championship
At Moscow, the fourth-seeded Lewiston Bengals beat the top-seeded Moscow Bears 4-1 at Abby Field (formerly Moscow School District Community Playfields) to win the regional title.
Lewiston (12-13) will host a three-team state play-in series next weekend. Moscow (16-10), fourth in the latest MaxPreps rankings in 5A, will receive an at-large berth, but will have to travel elsewhere in the state for its play-in series.
Lewiston upset second-seeded Sandpoint in the first round. The Bulldogs (12-14), 13th in the MaxPreps rankings, will learn their postseason fate Sunday, when the teams who qualified for the play-in series are announced.
3A District 1 tournament
At Orofino, the host and top-seeded Orofino Maniacs beat the second-seeded Grangeville Bulldogs 11-2 to win the district title.
Grangeville came back to beat the third-seeded Priest River Spartans 12-2 in the second-place game.
Orofino (21-3) will play host to a three-team state play-in series next weekend.
Grangeville (16-10), fourth in the MaxPreps rankings, will earn an at-large berth and travel for its play-in series.
Priest River (7-14), 14th in the MaxPreps rankings, will learn its postseason fate Sunday.
