ATHOL — Silverwood Theme Park has much to celebrate going into its opening weekend.
The theme park in its 37th year is evolving to create an exciting experience for first timers and repeat visitors, spokeswoman Sara Meddock said.
“We’re always upgrading and keeping up with the times,” Meddock said.
The iconic Tremors roller coaster got an upgrade with steel 208 ReTrak from Rocky Mountain Construction, a Hayden-based company. A second train and new Millenium Flyer trains from Great Coasters International will cut down on wait times.
Silverwood’s entertainment has also received a makeover, including an all-new magic show with Nick Norton’s Phantasm: Under the Big Top, new mini shows from Marvin and Friends in the High Noon Saloon and a reimagined train "robbery" scenario on the Silverwood Central Railway that benefits Canopy Village.
“Everyone remembers their first time going to Silverwood,” Meddock said. “It’s a special part of so many people’s lives, and our region as a whole, and we want to keep it that way.”
Though Silverwood has been able to retain 140 full-time staff and cast members, they’re always looking to hire additional seasonal staff members.
Employees enjoy benefits like flexible schedules, season passes, tickets for family members and staff parties, Meddock said.
Silverwood also offers a shuttle service for employees living as far away as Spokane Valley.
Silverwood Theme Park opens today.

A sepia-toned photograph of about 30 businessmen hangs in the office of Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber’s President and CEO, Linda Coppess. Though dressed in the fashion of decades past, the men gathered for a purpose that has endured: uplifting area businesses through the Chamber. The photo is a reminder of the Chamber’s 114 years of history, Coppess said in her address to nearly 200 attendees at Tuesday morning’s Breakfast Connect event.
