Born on July 14, 1959, in Spokane, Wash., David lived a life defined by service, courage and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
David dedicated his life to serving his country with distinction. He began his military career in the United States Coast Guard, where he served for six years before transitioning to the United States Air Force. Over the course of two decades in the Air Force, David rose to the rank of master sergeant and earned numerous service awards for his exemplary work as both a recruiter and medic. His dedication and excellence were so prolific that he ran out of wall space in his cherished “War Room,” where he proudly displayed his many commendations.
Among his many acts of valor, David is recognized in Andy Brown’s book “Warnings Unheeded” for his heroic actions during the tragic mass shooting at Fairchild Air Force Base in 1994. His bravery that day saved countless lives and left an enduring legacy that continues to impact generations. Outside of his military accomplishments, David found joy and peace in nature. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, camping and simply observing wildlife from his backyard.
David also held strong ties to the Masonic community. He was a lifetime member of both the Creswell Lodge in Oregon and the Spirit Lake Lodge in Idaho and served as Past Master of the Creswell Lodge. He shared this masonic bond with pride alongside his son, Rob, and father Ray Wickstrom.
David’s life was one of purpose and profound impact.
His legacy is etched not only into military history but also into the hearts of those who knew him through acts of bravery, quiet moments spent outdoors, and unwavering dedication to service.
May his memory bring comfort to all who were touched by his remarkable life.
