It is with great sadness that the family of Michael and Carolyn Murphy of Hayden Lake announces they have passed.

Carolyn J. Murphy, born April 13, 1943, passed Sept. 10, 2024, at 81. Michael J. Murphy, born April 1, 1939, joined Carolyn on Sept. 13, 2024, at 85.

Michael and Caroly's was a true love story. They met while working for the LAPD, both having careers that spanned over 20 years. Carolyn was a pioneer in law enforcement, in that she was one of the first women to serve as a uniformed officer. Mike and Carolyn retired and moved to Hayden Lake in 1986, where they made many lifelong friends. During that time, Carolyn was a very successful Real Estate Agent who loved putting people in the "dream homes." She was a great friend, loyal and generous. Carolyn served as mistress of ceremonies with Coeur d'Alene Ballet for many years. Upon retirement, Michael loved the outdoors. In the spring and summer months, you would likely find him canoeing or kayaking on one of Idaho's many lakes, fishing pole in hand. In the winter, he loved snow skiing on the slopes of Schweitzer Mountain or even in Canada. When the weather would not permit outdoor activities, he most likely was in his recliner reading a good book. Mike was truly dedicated to first responders and founded the Kootenai County Police and Fire Memorial Foundation to help families of fallen officers.

They are survived by Carolyn's brother Steven McConnell and his wife, Cora, niece Ivy Johnson, grandniece Jordan McConnell and great-grandniece Juliet Ortez-McConnell, and numerous friends they counted as family. A celebration of life is planned for May 31, 2025, at Seasons on Lakeside Avenue in Coeur d'Alene from noon to 4 p.m.
