Gonzaga women add pair of players
Gonzaga women's basketball head coach Lisa Fortier announced the signing of Taylor Smith, a 6-foot-2 forward, and Sierra Lichtie, a 6-foot forward.
Smith is transferring to Gonzaga after two years at Weber State. She will have two years of eligibility left at Gonzaga.
Lichtie played three years at Cal Poly. She comes to GU as a graduate student who will have two years left to play.
In her sophomore season, Smith, from Century High in Pocatello, played and started in 27 games for the Wildcats. She averaged 12.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while playing an average 30.2 minutes. She ranked seventh in Big Sky scoring to earn Big Sky First Team honors, the first Weber State women's basketball player to do so since the 2017-18 season.
Overall, she played in 56 games for the Wildcats and started in 28 of those. She averaged 25.8 minutes per game and grabbed 263 rebounds in her career while scoring 532 points.
"Taylor is a multi-skilled forward that can score and create in a variety of ways," Fortier said. "She thrives in mismatches and is the kind of player we think is just scratching the surface of her potential."
In her redshirt sophomore season, Lichtie started in 29 games and averaged 10.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. She was a key contributor during Cal Poly's dash in the Big West Championship, grabbing a team high 13 rebounds and 17 points against UC Santa Barbara. Overall, she played in 60 games for the Mustangs and started in 48 of those. She averaged 25.1 minutes per game and grabbed 294 rebounds in her career while scoring 518 points.
Before that, Lichtie played four years at Bingham (Utah) High, helping her school win state 6A championships in 2019 and 2020.
"Sierra is first and foremost a competitor," Fortier said. "A versatile forward who can guard multiple positions and does whatever it takes to win. Sierra is a smart player and will fit right in with the kind of team focus we have in our program."
