SPIRIT LAKE — Freshman Shae Jones struck out 11 in a four-hit shutout, and freshman Alannah Winland went 2 for 3 with three RBIs as the top-seeded Timberlake Tigers beat the second-seeded Bonners Ferry Badgers 6-0 on Monday to win the 4A District 1 softball championship.

Since Timberlake swept Bonners Ferry in their three Intermountain League games, the Tigers needed only to win Monday’s first game of a best-of-3 series for the district title to advance to state.

Timberlake advances to state May 15-17 at Skyview High in Nampa.

Jones walked two, and went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Timberlake. Winland had a two-run single in the fifth inning.

Jesi Kitchin had an RBI single to start a three-run first. Jones followed with a run-scoring double, and Winland singled in a run.

“Shae was solid on the mound, and our defense played great,” Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci said. “We hit the ball pretty well. All together I was happy with the team’s performance. Taylor (Bentley) played a great game for us behind the plate, too.”

Timberlake won its sixth straight district title, and 18th district title since 2000, when the Tigers won their first.

Last week, Timberlake won its sixth straight Intermountain League title, and 18th since 2005, when the Tigers won their first.

Sadie Frederickson had two hits for Bonners Ferry (7-11).
