POLSON — Sydnee Burke’s two-run double capped a six-run fourth inning for Columbia Falls, and the Wildkats beat Polson 15-13 in a slugfest of a Northwest A softball game Tuesday.
The game featured 13 extra-base hits, including four home runs. Columbia Falls led 4-1 on Tayler Lingle’s two-run double in the second inning; Polson went ahead 5-4 when Samantha Rensvold and Olivia Jore hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom o the frame.
Polson’s lead grew to 8-4 when Rensvold and Jore hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the third, but that only set the stage for the Kats’ big inning.
Lingle’s triple drove in two runs, and she scored on Annika Reid’s single to tie the game at 8-8; Burke’s two-bagger put Columbia Falls (12-6) up for good.
Polson trailed 12-10 going to the seventh, which is where Addy Bowler hit a leadoff homer for the Wildkats and three batters later Reid hit a two-run shot. Those three runs were handy because the Pirates (13-4-1) got three of their own in the seventh.
A bases-loaded walk to Emma Smith and a two-run single from Sierra Perez cut the gap to 15-13 and put the tying run on base, before Kats’ reliever Katie Bulawsky got a flyout to end the game.
Reid drove in five runs and Lingle four for the Kats; Burke had three RBIs. Bowler and Lingle each scored three times.
Smith, Rensvold and Jore all had three RBIs for Polson, and Jore scored three times. Liz Cunningham had a triple. Jaja Nichols had a double for the Pirates.
