If one had closed their eyes going by Polson City Hall this past Saturday, they might have thought it was summer. The sound of laughter and light conversation filled the air, the sun was out, and the air was filled with smells of burgers and hotdogs on the grill. 

Despite the senses and weather saying summer, it is still spring. However, that didn’t stop the City Hall Open House event from dishing up a fun, summer-like atmosphere for everyone involved.  

First Street East from the library to the stop light was shut down with police and fire vehicles lining the street. A few booths with tables were scattered throughout with some open spots to sit and enjoy a good meal. 

While the presence of so many firetrucks and police cars usually signals a fire or a crime, on Saturday it was all about face-to-face time. The event provided an opportunity for city employees, police and firefighters to engage with the public in a more fun and educational setting. The delicious food provided by Bunkers Bar and Grill didn’t hurt either. 

“The event was great” said Polson Police Chief George Simpson highlighting the great conversations, brainstorming and relationships he was able to build with new and old friends. “It was a good turnout, with a steady coming and going.”

Community members tried on police gear, while kids got their very own police badges, explored the inside of a fire truck or even put out a small fire. 

Multiple Polson City staff and officials also joined in for the inaugural event and offered an inside look at the workings of City Hall. “The city is really pleased with the opportunity we had to visit with local residents and business owners and to share how our services are provided,” said City Manager Ed Meece. 

Some of the other booths at the event represented the Job Service, Chamber of Commerce, and the Miracle of Montana Museum.
