SPIRIT LAKE – The Bonners Ferry Badgers dropped two straight against the Timberlake Tigers to close out the season with a .500 record of 11-11, a strong year despite competing with a roster of mostly freshmen and sophomores.

The Timberlake Tigers (15-3) has also been competing well with a young roster. The two key performers in the team’s shutout 6-0 victory on May 5 in the 4A District 1 championship game were both freshmen.

Tigers pitcher Shae Jones struck out 11 in a four-hit shutout. Tigers freshman Alannah Winland went 2 for 3 with three RBIs as the top-seeded Tigers beat the second-seeded Badgers.

Since Timberlake swept Bonners Ferry in their three Intermountain League games, the Tigers needed only to win Monday’s first game of a best-of-3 series for the district title to advance to state.

Timberlake advances to state May 15-17 at Skyview High in Nampa.

Lessons learned in Bonners Ferry

It brings me no joy to announce that this is my final piece for the Bonners Ferry Herald. Though I am not entirely to blame, some of my articles here have admittedly spurred controversy, but my hope is that few, if any of you look to the heavens and celebrate my departure, as I have sincerely worked to the best of my ability to provide fair and accurate local reporting.
