A Boundary County teacher is among 12 North Idaho educators receiving $200 from Spokane Teachers Credit Union for their classrooms.

Katherine Clifton of Naples Elementary was awarded one of the grants. She was notified by STCU officials last week of the award.

STCU, which was founded by high school teachers in 1934, is again honoring its roots by awarding a total of $10,000 to 50 randomly drawn educators across the region. Winners can spend their grants on anything that will enhance students’ classroom experience, whether a basic need or something special.

The online drawing was open to teachers, counselors, and other classroom-based positions at public and private districts served by Washington ESDs 101, 123 and 171, or in the eight northernmost counties of Idaho. 2025 marks the 12th year that STCU has offered the grants

Founded by educators in 1934, STCU has more than 280,000 members from all walks of life. The credit union has 39 branch locations, including seven in North Idaho.
