WHITEFISH — Flathead’s William Hollensteiner won two events Thursday, which along with some fine performances in the jumps gave the Braves the team title at the Last Chance Quad track and field meet.
Flathead swept the meet, which provided many athletes a chance to meet the Montana High School Association’s state qualifying marks. Hollensteiner cruised over the 300 hurdles in 39.29 seconds and marked 42 feet, 9 inches to lead a 1-2-3 Flathead finish in the triple jump.
Tim Zundel added a win in the long jump, teammate Henry Steurer cleared 12-0 to win the pole vault and Carson Thorne won the 3,200 as Flathead piled up 110 points to 77 for Whitefish, 48 for Browning and 28 for Libby.
The Bravettes cut it closer, scoring 96 points to 81.5 for Whitefish. Browning (48.5) and Libby (37) followed.
The host Bulldog boys had a day: Riley Zetooney (100), Colby Minton (200) and Simon Douglas (400) led a sprint sweep, and Carson Gulick won the 110 hurdles.
Douglas notably hit a personal record in the 400, clocking 51.54 seconds. That puts him in the top nine in Class A.
Whitefish also swept the relays and got victories from Anderson Barrille in the shot put (PR of 43 feet) and Braylon Dunn in the discus).
Libby had wins from Rowen Sherbo in the 800, Cody Watson in the 1,600 and Tristan Andersen in the javelin.
Browning’s Noah Butterfly won the high jump.
On the girls side, Libby freshman Capri Farmer lowered her PR in the 3,200 to 11:22.87, which puts her within a second of Polson sophomore Morgan Delaney, the Class A leader.
Whitefish freshman Ginger Bergland ran a PR of 26.78 to win in the 200 as well; she sits No. 9 in A in that event. She also was second to teammate Rachael Wilmot in the 100.
Browning’s Teslin Trombley won 400, long jump and triple jump, hitting a PR (34-1.5) in the latter. Trombley is seventh in A in the triple. Browning also got a win from Sierra Freedenberg in the 1,600 and Keyenna DeRoche in the triple jump.
Leading Flathead were freshman Nova Miller in the pole vault, Claire Jensen in the 800 (a PR of 2:26.07), Bristol Lenz in the 100 hurdles and Naomi Miller in the 300 hurdles.
