Beloved Fiona was called home to be with her Savior on May 3, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born prematurely June 7, 1934, in Knightswood, Scotland, she was not expected to survive, but her lifelong stubbornness won out. Her diminutive stature earned her the nickname “Flea,” which she wore proudly. The second child of Jack and Florence Christie, the early years were spent moving frequently while surviving the bombings of World War II and attending eight schools before emigrating to Toronto, Canada, in 1947, graduating with honors as salutatorian from Weston Collegiate and Vocational School while studying French, German, botany and chemistry.

While working in administration at Orenda Aircraft Engine Company in Malton, Canada, she met her husband of 42 years, Alexander MacArthur Cochrane, whom she married in February 1957. Her daughter, Janet, arrived in 1958, and Fiona became a homemaker. Son Iain followed in 1960. In 1961, the family emigrated to the United States, settling in Calabasas, Calif., and remaining there for the next 54 years. While raising her children, she held numerous positions in business, eventually serving as controller for President Ronald Reagan’s PAC, and proudly attended both inaugurations in Washington, D.C. As a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church, she served as deacon, elder and educator.

She loved all animals, particularly cats and hummingbirds. She relished testing her brilliant mind through reading, knitting, crocheting, cards, board games and puzzles.

Fiona is preceded by her father, mother, husband and daughter. She is survived by sister Jacqueline Jones, Roseville, Calif., sister Morag Brown, Franklin, Tenn., son Iain (Paula) Cochrane, Coeur d'Alene, granddaughter Crystal (Joesph) Teschendorf, Coeur d'Alene, grandson Rory Zent, Kingsport, Tenn., granddaughter Haleigh (Jim) Dooly, Rathdrum, great-grandsons Eli, Thomas and Nathan Teschendorf, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Scotland, England, Canada, Idaho and California.

Celebration of life is June 6, at noon at 1st Presbyterian, Coeur d'Alene at 521 E. Lakeside Ave. www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
