COEUR d’ALENE — Coeur d’Alene senior Connor Judson, who has signed to play at Division III Whitworth next year, beat teammate Samuel Mandel 6-0, 6-1 in the boys singles championship for his second straight district championship at the 6A District 1 tournament at Coeur d’Alene High on Saturday.
Judson advanced to the semifinals at state last year before having to default due to injury.
Coeur d’Alene junior Maddie Hunt defeated Viking senior Katie Shell 6-1, 1-6, 10-6 to win the girls singles title.
Coeur d’Alene freshmen Gabby Knutson and Natalie Knutson won the girls doubles title and Coeur d’Alene sophomore and senior Cailtin Combes claimed the mixed doubles championship in straight sets over Coeur d’Alene senior Nathan Pulsipher and sophomore Kyrsten Moore 6-1, 6-0. Coeur d’Alene seniors Lucas Reeves and Max James won the boys doubles title, beating Post Falls junior Isaiah Robinson and freshman Branson Morse 3-6, 6-1, 10-8.
"I am just so proud of the way all of our kids played," Coeur d'Alene boys coach Corey DeLeonard said. "They always have fun and compete at a high level when they are on the court. Everyone on the team did their part to help us win."
The top three in each division advance to the state tournament next weekend in Boise.

Sandpoint sweeps
titles at Region 1 tourney
SANDPOINT — Sandpoint sophomore Pepper Rickert beat teammate Bella Bailey in straight sets to claim the girls singles title at the 5A Region 1 tournament at the James E. Russell Tennis Center.
Sandpoint’s Jacob Dawson (boys singles) and the girls doubles team of Aubrey Knowles and Amelia Poulson also claimed district titles for the Bulldogs.
The top three in each division qualify for the state tournament next Friday and Saturday at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club.
