PREP GOLF: Coleman, Yount among top at 3A State Championship

BURLEY — Priest River High senior Palmer Coleman shot a 2-over-par 74 on day two to claim fourth place overall at the 3A State Championship, which concluded Tuesday at the River's Edge Golf Club.

Coleman's 74 was the third-best day two round out of 75 competitors. It's his second straight year receiving a medal, having won the 2A (now 3A) state title a year ago.

Sophomore Nate Fegert carded a 96 in addition to his score of 85 on day one, putting him in 34th place overall. Sophomore Braxton Knaack finished with a pair of 98s, putting him in 57th for Priest River, which finished 11th out of 13 scoring teams. Juniors Parker Bradbury and Mason Crump finished 71st and 72nd, respectively, both shooting 105s on day two.

On the girls side, senior Paityn Yount led the Lady Spartans with an impressive second day effort. Yount, who was tied for 15th after carding a 101 on day one, shot a 98 on day two to propel herself to a tied for 11th finish out of 65 golfers — just one spot shy of a medal. Junior Aleigha Jensen, who finished 31st, also posted a terrific day two score of 104, 14 strokes better than her day one total.
