BURLEY — Genesis Prep junior Byron Hammett shot a 77 in the second round of the state 3A boys golf tournament to finish seventh, leading the Jaguars to a fourth-place finish at River’s Edge Golf Club on Tuesday.

Hammett, who was 15th with an 84 after the first round, finished with a 161 to earn state medalist honors for finishing in the top 10 individually.

Genesis Prep shot a 352-356—708 to finish four shots ahead of Grace for fourth. The top four teams earn trophies.

It was Genesis Prep's third straight trophy from state. The Jaguar boys finished third last year, and fourth in 2023.

“It was a hard-fought few days,” second-year Genesis Prep coach Joe Hansen said. “The boys had to fight through lots of adversity and higher-than-normal scores. We fought from behind to steal the fourth-place trophy.”

Kellogg's boys tied for sixth at 714. Easton Towne led the Wildcats with a 16th-place finish.

Priest River senior Palmer Coleman, last year's state champion, finished fourth (78-74—152).

Ashley Von Behren of Ambrose won the girls title, finishing with a 79-75—155. Kelton Bodily of Melba was boys champion with a 74-69—143.

Declo won the boys team title, while Ambrose won the girls championship.
