Arline Garvey (Johnston) Donat, 96, passed away May 9 at Guardian Angel Home. She was born in Memphis, Tenn., on May 24, 1928. She moved to Idaho in the eighth grade. Arline and Ralph were sweethearts in high school and were married May 19, 1947. They were married for 72 years.

Arline taught school at Lakeland for 7 ½ years. She loved doing crafts, gardening and reading. Toward the end of her life, she worked on word puzzles constantly up until the day she passed away.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron G. and Bertha (Pearson) Johnston; her brother, William Richard Johnston; and her husband, Ralph A. Donat. 

She is survived by a brother, Aaron (Betty) Johnston of Maine. Sister Sonja Miller of Post Falls. Two sons, Gary (Janice) Donat and Christopher (Lisa) Donat. A daughter, Shellie (Ron) Straw. Seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, May 24, at 1 p.m., at the English Funeral Chapel, 1700 N. Spokane St., Post Falls. Condolences to the family at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
