Burn permits now required in Idaho

Closed fire season in Idaho began on May 10 and extends through October 20, and permits are required for those who plan to burn. Residents can obtain a free permit through the Idaho Department of Lands at burnpermits.idaho.gov. Permits are free and valid for ten days. 

Individuals living outside city limits anywhere in Idaho who plan to burn for any reason — including crop residue burning, must obtain a fire safety burn permit during closed fire season. 

Some cities and other jurisdictions — including local or county fire departments, Idaho DEQ, Tribal Reservations, and others — may have additional or alternate permit systems in place.  

Officials would like to remind the public that It is every individuals responsibility to have all the necessary permits, approvals, and notification in place for their location prior to ignition. Additionally, they remind everyone that escaped debris burning is the number one cause of unwanted human caused wildfires.
