Wolfpack send 7 to State tennis, Braves have 1 qualifier

GREAT FALLS — After two days of competition seven Glacier and one Flathead tennis players reached one of their goals for 2025, a spot in the state tournament.
The Wolfpack boys saw plenty of opportunity heading into Friday with three pairs in the semifinals, but just one earned a state spot. Carl Bitney and Sam Engellant downed teammates Ethan Ronngren and Micah Klippenstein before falling to CMR’s Eli Crist and Brady Pike in the final.
Ronngren and Klippenstein along with Dalyn Mathison and Braydon Jenkinson fell in their second matches of the day, while CMR placed three pairs into the state tournament.
In boys singles, Glacier’s Creed Norick and Flathead’s Holden Askvig fell in the semifinals before both claimed a win in round seven to secure their spots at the state tournament in Bozeman May 22-23. Norick defeated CMR’s Wiwo Batungbacal, while Askvig bested fellow Brave Rowan Alexander in three sets. Norick secured third place with a 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 win over Askvig.
In the team competition, CMR took control to win with 60 points ahead of Glacier at 36 — the teams were tied after the first day. Flathead finished third with 11 points and Great Falls came fourth with two points.
In the girls competition, CMR also took the victory with 53 points, Glacier finished second with 39. Flathead finished third with 10 points, with Great Falls at nine.
A pair of Wolfpack girls singles earned spots in the state tournament: sophomore Leilani Lennarz dropped a third-set tiebreaker to finish runner up to CMR’s Coco Brown while Autumn Bashara grabbed a straight-sets win in the third-place match.
In girls doubles, Glacier’s Reid Sanders and Quinn Berkram nabbed a state qualifying spot with a fourth-place finish after winning three straight matches in the consolation bracket.
CMR led all teams with six doubles pairs and four singles qualifying for state, including champions in all four competitions.
