Bonner County voters headed to the polls

I grew up in the Tri-Cities, Wash., and have always loved to write. I attended the University of Washington, where I earned a double major in journalism and political science, with an area of emphasis in history. I am the fifth out of six kids — don't believe any of the stories that my siblings tell. To be able to tell others stories and take photos for a living is a dream come true — and I considered myself blessed to be a community journalist. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, hiking and spending time outdoors, genealogy, reading, and watching the UW Huskies and the Seattle Seahawks. I am a servant to my cat, Frankie, who yes, will eat anything and everything in sight … even wedding cookies. | May 20, 2025 1:00 AM
SANDPOINT — There are a number of measures on ballots throughout Bonner County with items in most — but not all — of the county's precincts.
Voters are headed to the polls today, May 20, to decide measures on everything from school levies to a local option, non-property tax and levies in a handful of the county's fire district. Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and all are accessible to those with disabilities, Bonner County Clerk Michael Rosedale said.
If voters opted for an absentee ballot but haven't returned it yet, Rosedale said not to worry, there is still time to get signed and completed ballots to election officials.
Ballots can be dropped off at any polling place on Election Day or at the absentee ballot drop box inside the Bonner County Administration Building.
"Please remember: Ballots must be received by 8 p.m. to be counted — and don’t forget to sign the back before dropping it off," Rosedale said.
While a majority of the county's voters have issues to decide, not all precincts will be open or have measures to vote on. In the Clark fork, Hope and Humbird precincts, there are no measures on the ballot. In city of Sandpoint precincts — Beach, Wash., Airport and Blady — only certain addresses are eligible to vote based on what is on the ballot, Rosedale said.
There are eight measures spread throughout the county, including the Lakeland Joint School District levy and a maintenance and operation levy in the West Bonner County School District. The West Bonner Cemetery Maintenance District is seeking approval for a permanent override levy and the city of Ponderay is seeking approval for a local option, non-property tax.
A number of the county's fire districts also have measures appearing before voters with the Spirit Lake Fire District seeking a two-year levy override and the Northside, Westside and Sagle fire districts all seeking a permanent override levy.
"Let’s make our voices heard—get out and vote," Rosedale said.
