ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Maverick Gomez, Sandpoint Track & Field

This week's Athlete of the Week is Maverick Gomez of Sandpoint Track & Field.

A junior, Maverick won the 5A State Championship in the 200-meter dash with a new school record time of 21.94 seconds, breaking the 1997 record by .06 seconds. He also ran to a new personal best time of 10.80 seconds in the preliminary round of the state meet's 100-meter dash, which ranks as the second-fastest time in school history.
