An artist, a public servant, a therapist, a community activist, a civil engineer and a brewery owner will explore The Art of Growth, a PechaKucha event planned for May 29 at the Wachholz College Center.

Created in 2003 by two architects in Japan, the word “pechakucha” is Japanese for “chit chat,” according to pechakucha.com/about. The presentation style celebrates people, passion and creative thought, with chapters across the globe, including Kalispell, which was formed in 2017.

Under the fast-paced PechaKucha presentation format, each speaker goes through a slideshow of 20 images with 20 seconds to share each slide.

Among the evening’s storytellers are Kyle Waterman and Kelly Tapia-Chuning, each bringing a distinct lens to the theme of growth. Waterman is a passionate public servant who has worked with Western Montana Mental Health Center, the Kalispell City Council and the Mountain Climber. Tapia-Chuning is a multidisciplinary artist whose work focuses on genealogical and historical research, textile appropriation and large-scale needle felting.

The free event starts at 6:30 p.m. The recommended age for this event is 18 years or older. The Wachholz is located at 795 Grandview Dr., Kalispell.
